Binky the rabbit loved hopping around the backyard. He used to nibble on fresh grass and explore every nook and cranny. The garden was his playground. It was filled with colorful flowers, lush greenery, and hidden corners perfect for a curious bunny.

Soon Binky’s world changed. Binky realized that when he returned from neighbor’s home after one long month. Binky was staying there as his family was away vacationing. He realized that while he was passing his time in someone else’s home, his own had become miserable. The grass had grown taller and the flowers had wilted and died. The once tidy and vibrant garden unquestionably looked wild and neglected upon the family’s return.
The Overgrown Garden
As the family went in to take some rest, Binky wasted no time in starting to explore his home. However Binky’s homecoming looked rather sad. Moreover, the fresh scent of blooming flowers was replaced by the earthy smell of damp soil and overgrown grass. He wrinkled his nose at the new, unfamiliar scents and kept on exploring his transformed world.
The tall grass was no less than a jungle to the little rabbit. He pushed through the thick green blades, while his ears twitched at every sound. “Why has everything grown so wild so quickly?” Binky wondered, hopping from one overgrown patch to another. He nibbled at the grass, but it tasted different – less fresh, more tough.
As Binky made his way through the tall grass, he stumbled upon a small clearing. In the middle stood a patch of wilted flowers, their petals browned and their stems drooping. Binky felt a pang of sadness looking at them. “These flowers used to be so beautiful,” he thought.
“Let’s wait for another day, my family will do what’s right once they have taken their rest.” Binky reassured himself. The day passed and came the next however Binky’s family wasn’t bothered by the garden’s condition. The month long vacation had taken a toll and the increased workload kept them busy. The long working hours didn’t let them tend to the garden. Binky remembered watching the family from his burrow, digging and planting, watering and pruning. Several days passed and it seemed the little backyard oasis wasn’t in list of priorities of Binky’s family.
Binky Wouldn’t Give Up In This Rabbit Story
Binky, however, was determined. He didn’t want this rabbit story to be all gloomy. He went to the wilted blooms and started digging around the base of the flowers. “Maybe, just maybe, if I loosened the soil and gave them some water, they would come back to life,’ Binky pushed himself. He dug and dug until his little paws were covered in dirt. He recalled the feeling of the cool earth, the smell of the soil, and the satisfaction of creating something beautiful.
As he worked, Binky heard a rustling sound behind him. He turned around and saw his family coming into the garden. They were holding gardening tools and watering cans. “What are you doing out here, Binky?” mom asked. They were all surprised to see him hard at work.
Binky looked up at them with his big, round eyes and then turned towards the wilted flowers. His family knew immediately. “Oh, Binky, we’ve neglected our garden, haven’t we?” Mom patted him gently on the head. “Thank you for reminding us how important it is to take care of our little paradise.”
Together, they began to clear the overgrown grass. Next came the turn to trim the bushes along with watering the flowers. The bunny hopped around happily. He was overjoyed watching as his family worked to restore the garden to its former glory. They pulled weeds, planted new seeds, and made sure the flowers had plenty of water so they can come back to life.
Garden Came To Life
The setting sun brought new hope as the garden started to feel better. With the tall grass was trimmed and the flowers starting to perk up; the family’s hard work showed. Furthermore, the garden paths were clear once again. Binky’s family sat down on a bench, undoubtedly tired but content. Binky snuggled up next to them. He was not only feeling the warmth of their presence but also the satisfaction of a job well done.
“Look at the garden now,” dad said. “It’s almost back to its old self, thanks to you, Binky.” They stroked his soft fur and smiled. Binky felt proud and happy. He had helped bring life back to the garden. Finally a happy bunny in a rabbit story.
As the evening breeze rustled the leaves and the first stars appeared in the sky, Binky felt calm within. It was as if Binky was out like a light. The garden was peaceful once more, a perfect haven for a little rabbit to rest at ease. He nestled into the soft grass, closed his eyes, and let the gentle sounds of the garden lull him to sleep.
The next morning, a garden full of promise awaited Binky. On awakening, Binky saw the flowers were beginning to bloom again, and the grass was short and fresh. He knew there was still work to be done. He also knew that with his family by his side, the garden would flourish without a doubt.
