The Bigger Pterosaur Was Not Simply a Bigger Pteranodon

Quetzalcoatlus belonged to Azhdarchidae, a branch with very long necks, tall limbs, and strong terrestrial abilities. Pteranodon belonged to Pteranodontidae and had a smaller torso beneath long narrow wings adapted to marine flight.

Two giant wingspans were built on two very different chassis.

Quetzalcoatlus Northropi Is Still Incomplete

The giant species is represented by a partial skeleton, especially wing and limb material. More complete smaller Big Bend specimens were formally named Quetzalcoatlus lawsoni in 2021, so artists must not copy every smaller-species detail onto Q. northropi as certain.
