This conjunctions worksheet grade 1 helps students learn when to use and or but. Kids read two short sentences with a blank between them (for example, I like apples __ oranges.) and decide which word makes the best sense to join the ideas.
Students circle and or but, then rewrite the joined sentence neatly on the lines using correct spacing, a capital letter, and a period. At the bottom, kids read the new sentence aloud to check that it sounds right. Great for grade 1 ELA centers, morning work, small groups, or home practice.
