Kite Day Village was full of color. Kites of every shape danced in the sky—dragons, stars, and smiling faces. Layla sat on the grass with a book, imagining kind heroes in every story. Ethan ran up and down the field, testing the wind with his bright red kite. Leo stood a little apart, holding a simple blue kite close to his chest.

Leo was usually quiet. He liked to watch more than talk. But he always dreamed big inside.

That afternoon, the wind grew stronger. “Let’s go to the top of Windy Hill!” Ethan said. “The kites will fly even higher there!”

Kids cheered and rushed up the hill. Layla closed her book and followed, curious. Leo walked slowly behind, heart thumping. Windy Hill was tall. The gusts there could feel a bit wild.

On the hill, everyone let their kites go. They whooshed up into the sky—until a sudden blast of wind blew through.

Ethan’s red kite twisted and dove. The string wrapped around a small child’s wrist, pulling them toward the steep side of the hill.

“I can’t hold it!” the child cried. Everyone froze.

Layla’s eyes went wide. Ethan reached out, but the kid was already sliding. The ground dropped sharply just ahead.

Leo’s feet moved before he could think. He ran forward, grabbed the child’s shoulders from behind, and dug his heels into the grass.

“Lean back with me!” Leo shouted. The kite tugged hard, but Leo held on, muscles shaking, until Ethan reached them and quickly cut the string.

The wind quieted. The child sniffled but stood safely.

Ethan looked at Leo in amazement. “You were so brave.”

Leo’s cheeks turned pink. “I was scared,” he admitted softly. “But I didn’t want anyone to get hurt.”

Layla smiled. “Sometimes the quiet one is the bravest of all.”
