The Castle Tower Tumble – Short Story About Helping Someone Hurt

Medieval Fortress Playzone had cardboard towers, soft foam “stones,” and pretend flags waving in the air. Lily walked along the edge of the play area, making sure everyone played nicely. Caleb checked the obstacle course, thinking of fun new ways to use the ramps. Chloe danced across the “castle courtyard,” spinning and jumping with happy little hops. Noor sat nearby, sketching the scene with soft colors.

“Let’s do a victory dance across the bridge!” Chloe laughed, hopping onto the low foam bridge.

Caleb grinned. “Try my new move—spin, jump, then bow!”

Chloe spun… jumped… and whoops. Her foot slipped on the edge of the mat. She fell to her knees and hands with a soft thud.

“Ow!” Chloe winced. Her eyes filled with tears. The fun stopped.

Lily hurried over, voice gentle. “Everyone pause. Are you okay, Chloe?”

“My knee,” Chloe sniffed. “It really hurts.”

Noor put down her sketchbook and scooted close. “Can I sit with you?” she asked softly. “You don’t have to be alone.”

Caleb’s smile disappeared. “I’m so sorry,” he said. “I told you to try that move. I didn’t think you could slip.”

Lily shook her head kindly. “Accidents happen. The important thing now is to help.”

Caleb nodded. “I’ll go get the playground helper.” He ran to call the grown-up on duty.

While they waited, Noor hummed a soft little tune and drew a tiny heart and shield on her paper. “This is for you,” she said, showing Chloe. “A ‘brave dancer’ badge.”

The playground helper came, checked Chloe’s knee, and helped her to a bench to rest with an ice pack.

“Thanks for staying with me,” Chloe said quietly.
Lily smiled. “That’s what friends do when someone’s hurt.”
Caleb added, “Next time, we’ll make the dance a bit safer.”

Noor handed her drawing over. “And you’re still the bravest dancer in the fortress.”
