The Creaky Moon-Plants
This is a short story about courage against bullies and how facing fears with curiosity can lead to friendship.
At the Meteor Field Base, nighttime creaks echoed through the dark, making Zara, Chloe, Spinning, Laughing, and Ivy huddle close. ‘Let’s figure this out together!’ Zara whispered, her voice warm and steady.
Suddenly, older kids appeared, their shadows long. ‘Baby astronomers scared of noises?’ one teased. Chloe stopped her happy jumping and looked down at her boots.
Zara stood tall, her hands on her hips. ‘We’re not hiding—we’re investigating!’ she declared. Chloe’s eyes lit up. ‘A mystery game!’ she squealed, bouncing again.
Spinning and Laughing put their ears to the walls, giggling softly. ‘The creaks are coming from over there,’ Spinning whispered. They all tiptoed like quiet space-mice.
Ivy peeked into the greenhouse and gasped. ‘Look! The moon-plants are stretching!’ Inside, shimmering plants gently creaked as they grew, glowing like little stars.
Zara walked back to the bullies, her steps calm. ‘The sounds are just friendly plants growing in the night soil. Nothing scary at all,’ she explained.
The bullies’ faces softened. ‘We’re sorry for teasing,’ one said. ‘Can we see the plants too?’ Ivy smiled and waved them over with a friendly nod.
In the glowing greenhouse, everyone smiled at the creaking moon-plants. Facing fears with curiosity had turned teasing into teaching—and made new friends under the starry sky.
