Chirpy Stories
The Sky Silk Welcome
This is a gentle short story about comforting friends and helping them feel safe in new places.
Sky Silk Valley floated high above the clouds, with soft ribbons of mist swirling between the hills. Ivy played in the garden patches, caring for tiny flowers, bees, and butterflies. Hannah hummed gentle songs that made everyone feel safe. Mika the Meerkat stood on a rock, watching carefully for anything that felt “too much” for someone. Pip the Parrot flapped overhead, ready with chatty, funny advice.
One afternoon, a new kid arrived in the valley—a little lamb named Lila. She held her scarf tightly and stared at the ground.
“Hi, Lila!” Ivy said, waving. “Want to see my butterfly garden?”
Lila shook her head. “It’s all… new. I miss my old home.”
Mika noticed the way her hooves trembled. “She’s not scared of us,” he whispered. “She’s just sad.”
Hannah sat beside Lila and began a soft song about brave hearts and new places. “It’s okay to miss where you came from,” she said gently. “You don’t have to be happy right away.”
Pip swooped down and landed nearby. “First day feelings are heavy,” he said. “But we can help carry them!”
Ivy picked a small, friendly-looking flower. “This one is for you,” she said. “You can plant it here if you want—a tiny piece of your new home.”
Lila held the flower carefully. “Can… you stay with me while I plant it?”
“Of course,” Mika said. “We’re not going anywhere.”
They all knelt beside her:
Ivy helped press the soil,
Hannah hummed her gentle song,
Mika kept watch so nothing disturbed them,
and Pip told small, silly jokes that made Lila smile a little.
By the time the flower stood straight, Lila’s shoulders felt lighter.
“Thank you,” she whispered. “I still miss my old home… but I don’t feel alone anymore.”
