Chirpy Stories
The Extra Picnic Basket
This gentle story shows how sharing food generously can make everyone feel included and cared for.
Tidal Forest was a magical place where the trees grew close to the shining water. Waves rolled in gently, and tiny crabs drew zigzag lines in the sand.
Bumi the Baboon bounced along the shore, doing silly dances that made everyone laugh. Poko the Panda walked slowly behind him, bringing a soft calm wherever he went. Yani the Yak carried the heavy picnic blanket and baskets with steady steps. Lulu the Lion strode confidently, always cheering her friends on.
They reached a sunny spot and spread out their picnic. Bumi had crunchy chips. Poko had soft steamed buns. Yani had sweet apples. Lulu had sandwiches stacked high.
“I’m starving,” Bumi said. “Let’s eat!”
Just then, they noticed another group of animals nearby—a few raccoons and a small otter. Their picnic basket had tipped over, and the waves had washed some of their food away.
The otter’s tummy growled loudly.
“Let’s help them,” Lulu whispered.
Bumi hugged his basket. “But… then we’ll have less for us.”
Yani set down the last basket. “We still have plenty,” he said warmly. Poko nodded. “Sharing doesn’t just fill tummies. It fills hearts.”
Bumi looked at his chips, then at the hungry otter. After a moment, he stood up. “Okay… let’s put everything in the middle and share with everyone—no counting, no saving the ‘best’ for ourselves.”
They invited the other animals to join.
Bumi passed chips around with silly jokes, Poko offered buns gently, Yani sliced apples, and Lulu handed out sandwiches to everyone.
The otter beamed. “Thank you. You didn’t have to… but you did.”
Bumi’s chest felt warm. “Sharing a lot feels better than keeping a lot.”
