The Missing Puzzle Piece
This is a short story about telling the truth and how honesty helps everyone work together.
Oakwand Cottage sat warm and welcoming at the edge of the woods, its tiny lanterns glowing softly.
Inside, Grayson focused on a forest-shaped puzzle, Chloe danced around imagining the pieces as creatures, Sofia studied the box to plan steps, and Emily wrote notes so no one forgot where pieces belonged.
They were nearly finished when Grayson noticed something wrong — the final corner piece was missing. They looked around but saw nothing on the table or floor.
Chloe froze, her pockets bulging slightly. Sofia gently asked if she had picked up the piece.
Chloe blushed and pulled it from her pocket, admitting she thought it looked cute and forgot to put it back. Emily reminded her that mistakes happen but telling the truth helps fix them.
Grayson thanked her for being honest and suggested they finish together.
Chloe placed the piece in its spot and the puzzle glowed with color. She apologized and promised to speak up next time.
Sofia patted her shoulder saying that was all anyone needed, and Emily wrote a final note: Puzzle complete — with teamwork and truth.
