Sammy Finds His Voice – Short Story About Being Brave At School

In the shimmering Silver Mist Forest, Ollie the Owl ruffled his feathers anxiously on a pine branch. Logan the fox noticed first, nudging Jack the rabbit. ‘Look—Ollie seems worried,’ Logan whispered.

Jack hopped closer, his ears twitching with curiosity.

Ollie hooted softly, ‘A little one at Forest School is too scared to speak up.’ The friends gathered round, their eyes wide. ‘Who is it?’ asked Logan.

Sammy the squirrel,’ Ollie explained. ‘He stays silent during lessons, afraid others will giggle at his tiny voice.’ Logan nodded, already thinking of ways to help.

The next day, Logan watched Sammy closely. He saw the squirrel’s paws tremble when the teacher called his name. ‘He’s shaking like a leaf,’ Logan whispered to Jack.

Jack bounced over to Sammy. ‘Once I tried to count my own ears and got all mixed up!’ Sammy giggled, covering his mouth. ‘That’s silly,’ he whispered back.

Sabi the Snake slithered quietly under Sammy’s desk. ‘Oh!’ she hissed softly. ‘He’s drawn pictures of brave forest heroes hiding here.’

The friends huddled together. ‘Sammy has great ideas,’ said Logan. ‘Let’s practice speaking together!’ Jack made his voice sound like a wobbly frog, and Sammy laughed.

Next morning, Sammy stood on a mossy log, holding his drawing. He took a deep breath and raised his paw. ‘What if we count acorns by twos?’ he said. The class smiled, and silver mist swirled as his three friends cheered below.
