Chirpy Stories
The Hummingbird Rescue
This is a short story about courage during danger and how friends work together to help someone in trouble.
At Lantern Herb Cottage, a tiny hummingbird buzzed happily among the flowers, sipping sweet nectar. Suddenly, it zipped right into a big spiderweb high in a tree! The little bird flapped its shimmering wings, but the sticky threads held it tight.
Nadia watched quietly from below, her eyes wide with worry.
“Look!” Nadia whispered, pointing upward. “The hummingbird is stuck and scared.” Mason dropped his toy blocks and ran over. “We have to help!” he said, already thinking of a plan.
Mason gathered sticks and soft leaves. “I’ll build a gentle ladder to reach up high,” he announced, his hands moving quickly. The sticks clicked together as he worked.
Haru the Hedgehog peeked from behind a bush. Though usually shy, he uncurled and waddled over. “I can help you reach,” he said softly, offering his back for Mason to stand on.
Gigi the Giraffe stretched her long neck from across the garden. “A light breeze is coming,” she warned gently. “Hold steady, friends.” Her kind eyes watched the whole scene.
Mason balanced on Haru’s back, reaching up with a soft leaf. Carefully, he began untangling the sticky threads. The hummingbird’s wings shimmered in the lantern light as it waited.
The breeze picked up, shaking the ladder. Mason held his breath and gently freed the last thread. “Almost there!” he whispered, his hands steady despite the wobbling.
With a final flutter, the hummingbird was free! It chirped a happy “thank you” and zoomed back to its nest. The friends smiled – together, they’d been brave enough to help.
