Wandwood Lakeside was calm and shiny, with trees leaning over the water like they were whispering secrets. Asher sat near the shore, building a tiny wooden raft. He loved turning simple sticks and string into fun inventions.
Amelia sat beside him, making up a story about brave rafts sailing to faraway islands. Sabi the Snake watched quietly from a rock, noticing every small ripple in the water. Kali the Crocodile floated nearby, slow and calm, always reminding everyone, “Good things take patience.”
Asher finished the raft and set it gently in the shallow water. “Look! It even floats!”
Just then, a younger turtle waddled over, eyes wide. “Wow… I wish I had a raft like that. I’m too little to make one.”
Amelia whispered, “You could give it to him.”
Asher hesitated. “But I worked hard on it…”
Sabi tilted his head. “He didn’t ask you to give it. He just shared how he feels.”
Kali added softly, “Sometimes kindness means giving without counting what you get back.”
Asher looked at the turtle’s hopeful face. His heart felt warm.
“Here,” he said, pushing the raft closer. “You can have it.”
The turtle gasped. “Really? But… what do you want for it?”
“Nothing,” Asher smiled. “I just want you to enjoy it.”
Later, Amelia and Asher began building another raft together. Amelia teased, “Maybe someone will give us something too.”
Sabi shook his head. “That’s not why Asher gave it away.”
Kali nodded. “True giving doesn’t keep score.”
As they worked, they heard happy splashes. The little turtle was sailing the tiny raft in circles, laughing and waving at them.
Asher smiled. “That’s enough for me.”
