The Windy Chore Day
This is a gentle short story about being helpful and noticing when others need support.
Breezewood Hut sat on a little hill where the wind liked to play with leaves and clotheslines. Bumi the Baboon bounced around the yard, making silly faces. “Windy days are the best!” he laughed.
Tara the Turtle moved slowly along the path, watching carefully. She took her time, but she understood things deeply.
Poko the Panda sat on the porch steps, bringing calm just by breathing slowly.
Sona the Sparrow swooped overhead, ready with tiny words of encouragement.
Today, the friends had chores to do around the hut.
Bumi was supposed to pick up fallen sticks.
Tara was sweeping the porch.
Poko folded blankets.
Sona checked if anyone needed help.
A sudden strong gust of wind blew through.
WHOOSH!
Blankets flew off the porch. The broom slipped from Tara’s hands. A basket of small toys rolled down the hill.
Bumi laughed at first. “The wind is doing silly tricks!” But then he saw Tara looking tired, Poko trying to catch blankets slowly, and a young bunny at the bottom of the hill chasing runaway toys with worried eyes.
Sona fluttered near Bumi’s ear. “This is our moment to help,” she chirped. “Not just to laugh.”
Bumi stopped bouncing. “You’re right.”
He galloped down the hill, scooping up toys and handing them to the bunny. “I’ve got these. You don’t have to chase them alone,” he said.
Then he hurried back up to grab the broom for Tara. “I’ll hold it while you sweep so the wind can’t steal it.”
Poko smiled as Bumi pinned a blanket with his tail. “Thank you. That makes everything easier.”
Sona circled above, cheering, “Look at all this helpfulness!”
By the time the wind calmed, the yard was tidy again—and everyone’s heart felt lighter.
